Tag Or Treat is a seasonal Blooket Plus mode where players split into two roles with genuinely different rules: Taggers chase and tag, while Treaters collect candy and try to avoid them. Tagging someone doesn’t just interrupt play, it swaps both players’ roles on the spot after a shared question. Tag Or Treat sits inside the wider Blooket Plus modes lineup, though unlike most of that lineup, it only appears during a narrow window each year and has one of the strangest release histories of any Blooket mode.
Every player in Tag Or Treat is assigned one of two roles at the start: Tagger or Treater, and the two roles play almost like separate games layered on the same map. Taggers chase down Treaters to tag them, while Treaters race around collecting candy while trying to stay clear of any Tagger nearby. The player with the most candy when the game ends, or the first to reach the candy goal, wins the round.
A Tagger’s entire job is to catch Treaters, and the role comes with real restrictions to match. Taggers cannot collect candy under any circumstance, no matter how close they get to an unclaimed pile. They also move through slime fences more slowly than Treaters do, turning what’s a minor obstacle for the other role into a genuine tactical disadvantage for a Tagger trying to close a chase.
Every Tagger appears on screen as the Ghost blook, and their name displays in green text, making them identifiable at a glance. The Ghost blook exists specifically to represent the Tagger role and can’t be manually selected by a player outside of it.
Treaters exist to gather candy scattered around the map, and their movement carries none of a Tagger’s penalties. A Treater passes through slime fences instantly, with no slowdown at all, and can freely collect any candy still available. Once a specific candy spot has been collected, it stays empty until the player who took it cycles all the way through a Tagger phase and back to Treater again.
Treaters appear as a regular blook of the player’s choice, distinct from the Ghost, and their name displays in white text rather than green.
Catching a Treater doesn’t end their turn, it flips it. When a Tagger successfully tags a Treater, both players are given the same question, and once it’s answered, their roles swap: the Tagger becomes a Treater, and the Treater becomes a Tagger. A successful tag also pays the Tagger 100 candy, the same amount a Treater earns for collecting a single candy pile, keeping both roles worth roughly the same per action. Random role swaps can also occur independently of a tag, shuffling some players between roles without a direct catch triggering it.
Tag Or Treat only appears during Spooktober, Blooket’s Halloween-season event window, and it isn’t part of the regular Plus mode rotation the rest of the year. It ran during Spooktober in both 2024 and 2025, and the pattern points to it returning during future Spooktober events rather than staying permanently available or permanently retired.
Few Blooket modes have had a launch as unstable as this one. Across 2024 and 2025, Tag Or Treat was released and taken down at least seven separate times before settling into a stable seasonal pattern.

Every 2024 takedown was reportedly tied to Blooket’s creator, Ben Stewart, testing the mode for bugs before a wider release. By the time Tag Or Treat returned in October 2025, it held a distinction no other mode shares: the first Blooket mode ever deleted and later brought back.
The name Tag Or Treat is a portmanteau of “Trick or Treat,” with Tag swapped in for Trick. The Chick Chicken blook appears during the tutorial screen, separate from the Ghost blook that represents the Tagger role in actual gameplay. Tag Or Treat also shares its in-game font with the now-retired Tower of Doom, a small but confirmed cross-mode detail.
One early theory about Tag Or Treat turned out to be false: players initially believed it was a reskin of Laser Tag, but this was disproven once both modes appeared together on the same mode-selection screen at once. A separate, unconfirmed idea persists in the community that Tag Or Treat blends elements of Egg Hunt and Monster Brawl, since all three involve collecting items while evading a chaser.
